Central Illinois Legislative Forum

Working in conjunction with the Illinois Rural Health Association and Illinois State Medical Society, Rep. Bill Mitchell (R-Forsyth) organized the on April 25th at Kirby Medical Center in Monticello Health care officials from Champaign, DeWitt, Douglas, McLean, Macon, & Piatt Counties were invited to attend. The Forum provided a great opportunity for local health care providers to explain the everyday impact the decisions made in Springfield have locally not only in terms of access but the preventative and follow- up work our public health departments do, which is so often taken for granted to prevent the spread of debilitating diseases in our communities.

IRHA Hosts Legislative Forum in Macoupin County

IRHA recently hosted legislative forum at the Magnusun Grand Hotel in Carlinville which was very well attended by over 40 area medical providers including doctors, nurses, hospital CEOs, Rural Health Clinic administrators, dentists, public health departments and medical students. The Forum provided an opportunity for state legislators to gain a better understanding of local healthcare needs. Items at the top of the discussion list were the need for Telehealth, the lack of dental care and Medicaid reimbursement for adult dental, a federal proposal to widen the geographic distance between hospitals to qualify as Critical Access Hospitals, physician recruitment problems in rural areas and how the expansion of Medicaid will impact an already backlogged system.

Central Region Legislative Forum Held in Carthage

 IRHA hosted its Central Region Legislative Forum in conjunction with the Hancock County Health Department. This is part of a series of Legislative Forums IRHA is holding in various parts of the state aimed at learning more about the regional policy needs of its membership. There was a panel discussion with State Senator John Sullivan (D-Rushville), State Representatives Jil Tracy (R-Quincy) and Norine Hammond (R-Macomb). Over 25 health care administrators from backgrounds, including county health departments, EMS, hospitals, health clinics, hospice, mental health, supportive living from Hancock County and the surrounding areas attended the event and were able to gain a better understanding of the current state of affairs in Springfield.

                                      BUREAU COUNTY LEGISLATIVE FORUM

IRHA held its Northern Region Legislative Forum at Perry Memorial Hospital. Area legislators explained hot topics at the state and federal level and learned about IRHA's legislative agenda. Participants were also asked to share local concerns.
